Am I the only one who sleeps naked and thinks it’s totally normal? Every time the subject of sleeping wear gets broached, which isn’t that often mind you, people look at me like I’m crazy. I try to explain myself for sleeping in the body’s most natural state, but nobody seems to genuinely care. I literally have to wear clothes in every other aspect of my life. It’s not so much a choice as it is a requirement, which is fine, it’s not like I’m trying to go to the grocery store naked, I’m just trying to make a point.
When I finally get to relax in my own bed and drift off to sleep, I don’t want to be hindered by unwanted and unnecessary material. I’m sure we’ve all experienced getting our shirt or shorts tangled up in bed within the sheets, no matter how comfortable our sleeping attire.
You know who doesn’t experience that anymore? Me. And anyone else who’s decided to ditch their clothes while in bed.
If you’re looking for even more reasons to take off your pants when it’s time to sleep, check out these four reasons that are sure to convince you.
1. Your Body Has a Chance to Breathe
Letting your body breathe or air out, for a lack of a better phrase, is healthy.
Wearing clothing all the time keeps this from happening, and it can be even worse while in bed under the sheets. This is especially true for women because wearing underwear during sleep can actually trap bacteria and yeast, which can lead to a number of problems. So go ahead, get some air where you usually don’t.
2. You’ll Sleep Better Throughout the Night
Although pajamas are incredibly comfortable, they can still be annoying when you’re trying to get some much-needed rest. Not only can they get tangled up when you’re trying to move around in your sleep, but they can also increase your body temperature drastically. Your body requires a cool environment to be comfortable, so the more you wear, the harder it is for your body to fall asleep, and stay asleep.
3. Sleeping Naked Can Reduce Stress
If you sleep naked with a partner, the skin-to-skin contact that you feel can actually reduce your stress levels. We all know that cuddling and getting close to a person can be healthy for your brain, but sleeping naked will take that to a whole other level. Studies have shown that it will lower your blood pressure and help you relax.
In the long term, this can be incredibly beneficial to your health, and in the short term, it will help you fall asleep faster.
4. Sleeping Naked Helps You Lose Weight
When you don’t get enough sleep at night, you increase your stress levels. This makes binge eating junk foods much more of a threat.
However, we already know that sleeping naked increases your chances of a good night sleep, but it also keeps your stress levels in check. The most common sign of increased stress levels involves the food we eat, so it’s important we keep those stress levels down for the sake of our own physical health.
