According to a Pew Research poll, 25% of Americans believe that when we die, our souls are reincarnated and I’m among them! I’m sort of an agnostic believer in reincarnation though. There are numerous beliefs surrounding reincarnation. Some believe that we are repeatedly reincarnated as humans until we learn a lesson and then move onto another plane of existence. Others think we’re reincarnated as humans over and over again. Some think that we’re reincarnated as any living creature, and the better we behaved in life, the better of a creature we’re reincarnated into.
My favorite belief is that when we die, our souls shatter like a glass thrown against a brick wall. Then some entity sweeps up all the pieces and forms a new soul. Some of the pieces get mixed up, so we have pieces of the souls of others and they have pieces of our souls too. So when you meet someone you instantly click with, you’ve met someone who has a piece of your soul, and you have a piece of theirs.
It’s nice, isn’t it?
Some believe that there are souls among us who are experiencing their first go-round on Earth and that there are some more seasoned souls that have lived numerous times before. This is what you should look for when trying to determine whether you’ve lived previous lives.
1. You have the same dreams over and over again.
My aunt tells a story of having this same scary dream repeatedly. She’s running through a dark hallway as a child wearing a depression-era nightgown. A man is chasing her with an ax. When he finally catches up to her, she wakes up. My aunt’s dream is a sign that she has lived a previous life, perhaps as a young woman who met an unfortunate fate. If you have dreams where you’re someone else somewhere else and they keep happening, that’s a sure sign you’ve been reincarnated.
2. You have a strong “gut” feeling about things.
Intuition is something we all have. It’s that little voice in the back of your head that says “Yo this is not a good situation, walk away,” or “Hey, this guy’s really nice. Ask him out on a date.” As we get older in this life, our intuition gets better. So it makes sense that people with a strong natural intuition have likely lived previous lives. It’s not your first rodeo, so to speak.
3. You have memories of things that didn’t happen. Or did they?
This is a slightly less common sign of reincarnation. When your souls are pieced together for a new life, they’re mostly wiped clean of memories. Perhaps not intentionally, but when we’re born, we’re essentially blank slates. It’s probably just something that happens during the process of reincarnation that can’t be helped. But once in a while, a memory or two will squeeze through. Some of these memories are even more accessible through hypnotism. They just don’t fit in with the life you’ve lived though. Did you make them up or are you remembering a past life?
4. You experience precognition.
Precognition is a type of future sight where you’re able to obtain information about events that haven’t yet happened in the form of visions, feelings, and other sensations. It’s not entirely clear why this happens. It could be that there’s a sort of collective consciousness made up of the thoughts of everyone that more easily flows through those who’ve been reincarnated. It’s hard to say for sure.
5. You feel older than you are.
When I was born, my mother said I was an old man. I even had the bald spot on top and hair around the sides like a little professor. As I grew up, I disliked other kids and spent most of my time around adults. They were always easier to level with. I guess in a way, always feeling older and more mature than I am is a sign that I am reincarnated!
6. You have a strong love for specific cultures or time periods.
You were born in 1982 but you’ve always loved watching films and reading about the roaring 20’s. Or you were born in Germany and yet you feel completely at home when you visit another completely different city like San Francisco. It’s a sign that you don’t just have an interest in different time periods and cultures but that your past life may have existed in them! If you have an adoration for a past time or place that you can’t quite explain, that’s a sign!
7. You have phobias that you can’t explain.
This one actually has two potential explanations. The first is that, as young people, you may have experienced a close call at the swimming pool but don’t remember it. Yet you now fear bodies of water. The brain blocks out traumatic memories, and yet the phobia may still exist without any context. This is something that happens naturally.
It’s clear, however, that when you experience a strange fear, like a fear of spiders or a fear of knives or a fear of guns but you’ve never had a bad experience with any of them (according to your family), you may be remembering how you died or some terrible trauma from your past life. It’s another sign that you have been reincarnated.
