In the olden days, we were able to care for our loved ones as they aged and needed more assistance. In today’s world, many of us don’t have that luxury. We have our own young families, full time jobs, and responsibilities. We often don’t have room in our homes. For many of us, taking care of our parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents as they age is out of the question. And so assisted living facilities and nursing homes become the normal for us as we age.
The folks at MedCottages have developed what they call “Granny Pods” as an excellent alternative to nursing homes for older family members. They’re essentially like any other tiny home, being only 12 x 24 feet, but they are “tricked out” to be the ultimate old lady living space.
The pods are built with safety in mind. Each includes a small kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom all designed for seniors. Every bathroom is handicap accessible with a wheelchair-accessible shower.
The kitchen has every amenity an average kitchen would. It has a microwave, refrigerator, and even a small electromagnetically-insulated safe that can store supplements and medications. Everything is safe to reach.
There are other fantastic safety measures in the home. They even come with small webcams in case the family needs to be able to monitor the home and a padded floor to go easy on joints and pad any potential falls.
The homes also come with the ability to monitor vital signs and purify the air for contaminants. They even come with an alarm to remind you to take your supplements and superfoods. Check it out:
I know they’re designed for older people, but I kind of want one myself!
